1 Peter 3: What the Holy Spirit Says You Need to “Have” Today
Today’s Bible reading is 1 Peter 3 but I’d like to highlight verses 8 and 9.
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.
Having addressed servants (2:18-25), wives (3:1-6), and husbands (3:7), Peter is led by the Holy Spirit of God to “finally” address “all” of us. And what is his message? “Have” certain things. It’s a list of qualities worth meditating upon, praying about, and aiming for throughout the day.
- Unity of mind
- Sympathy
- Brotherly love
- A tender heart
- A humble mind
Evil may come knocking on your door today. Don’t repay it with further evil. You might be on the receiving end of reviling today. Don’t revile in return. On the contrary, bless. We’ve been enabled, by God’s grace, to obtain a blessing; in the meantime, we are to be blessings.
“For to this you were called.” Let’s set our minds from the beginning of the day to live up to that calling, standing strong and shining bright to the glory of our Father in heaven.
