“From God to the Road”
My wife Shelly used to babysit a little boy named Dustin who would tell her every once in a while that he loved her “from God to the road.” That was just about as big and wide as Dustin could imagine at 3 years old. “From God to the road.”
In Psalm 36, David seems to be similarly stretching for words to describe the wonder of our matchless Creator.
Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
your judgments are like the great deep… (36:5-6)
Recognizing these truths led David to worship, and the next few lines of Psalm 36 continue to serve as a fountain of living fuel for our own worship today.
How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
The children of mankind take refuge
in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light do we see light.
Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you,
and your righteousness to the upright of heart! (36:7-10)
What wonderful words to savor as we offer our own sacrifice of praise today…
Precious. How precious is the LORD’s steadfast love!
Refuge. In the shadow of his wings, what do we really have to fear?
Abundance. Our Father in heaven is the eager, gracious giver of every good and perfect gift.
Delight. He is the overflowing, never-ending source of an entire “river” of delights.
Incredible blessings that continue to stretch from God to the road.
