Daily Bible Reading Reflections

1 Peter 2: Chosen, Royal, Holy

Today’s Bible reading is 1 Peter 2, but notice especially verses 9 and 10.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

At various points throughout the day, you will be faced with a fundamental question: “Who am I?” Thank God we have the opportunity to definitively answer that question in life-changing, eternity-shaping, Christ-exalting ways.

If I’m a Christian, I am chosen. I am a royal priest. I am a citizen of a holy nation. I belong to King Jesus. I am a proclaimer of the excellencies of my Savior. I am in the light. I have received mercy.

Christian: remember who you are today. Remember WHOSE you are today. Let’s proclaim his excellencies, with our mouths and by our examples. That’s life as it was meant to be.
